Our School

Smethport JSHS is a full-service, public junior and senior high school in McKean County, Pennsylvania. As part of the Smethport Area School District, we serve seventh through twelfth-grade students living in and around Smethport Borough, Hamlin, Keating, Norwich, and Sergeant Townships.

At our small school, we offer a variety of opportunities for students to develop their skills and broaden their horizons. We proudly offer several academic tracks and extracurricular programs that prepare our students for life after high school—whether they are headed to college or planning to join our skilled workforce.

College in the Classroom

Smethport High School offers both dual-credit and advanced placement courses that allow students to earn high school and college credit simultaneously.

Advanced Placement
AP courses are for students whose academic achievement and interests demonstrate their ability to succeed at the college-level. Students may earn advanced standing in college by earning high scores on their AP tests at the end of each course. Courses are weighted and may boost student GPA. Parents are responsible for testing fees.

Dual-Credit
Thanks to our partnership with the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford, students can earn up to 24 college credits while completing their high school graduation requirements. Smethport’s certified instructors teach the classes. Parents are responsible for applicable course fees.

Dual Enrollment
Students may also elect to take college classes on the college campus. These courses will count towards high school graduation requirements but will not be weighted in figuring student GPA. Parents are responsible for applicable course fees and student transportation.

Distance Learning
Another option students can use to earn college credit while still in high school involves distance learning. Potter County Education Council offers evening classes at Smethport through Gannon University. These career-centric courses are fully accredited and allow students to interact directly with a professor throughout the course.

Career Technical Education

Career Technical Education (CTE) prepares students to enter the workforce immediately after graduation or to pursue further education at a community college or university. We combine classroom instruction with work-based learning experiences and personal leadership development to help ensure a dynamic workforce for the future. We bus CTE students to Seneca Highlands Career and Technical Center in Port Allegany each morning for these work-related classes.

Hubber Academy

We also offer Hubber Academy, a cyber school option for students who would benefit from the flexible scheduling of an online learning environment. We offer both full-time and part-time scheduling. Enrollment information is available in our guidance office.
