Fine Arts and Technology

Art and technology are part of modern life, but there’s a difference between consuming art and technology and actually appreciating and producing it. Participating in fine arts helps students grow academically and learn an appreciation they’ll carry with them into adulthood. And while computers can make learning easier and more fun, learning how to fully utilize various technologies gives students a future advantage.

At Smethport Area Junior–Senior High, we understand how critical these components are to our students’ education, which is why we devote significant resources to supporting the arts and technology in our classrooms.

The Arts

Life is better with color! Music and the visual arts allow humankind to communicate through movement, sound, and imagery. See where your creativity can take you in one of our elective classes.

  • Art (Drawing and Painting)
  • 3D Design
  • Choir
  • Choral Movement
  • Music Theory and Appreciation
  • Show Choir
  • Band

Band students may also elect to join extra-curricular activities such as marching band, jazz band, brass choir, and percussion ensemble. Permission forms are in the high school band room.

While we encourage the use of technology to advance learning, there is a clear distinction between educational technology and entertainment technology. Our district proudly offers students access to high-speed computer networks, online curriculum supplements, and electronic mail. To boost student workplace skills, we also offer the following business and technology courses:

  • Coding
  • Computer Applications
  • Database Systems
  • Intro to CADD and Technical Drawing
  • Manufacturing and Robotics
  • Web Design
