What if my child needs to leave school early?

We strongly encourage parents to schedule appointments outside of school hours. However, if that is not possible, please send a signed written note or appointment card with your student on the morning of the appointment. The main office will issue your student a “Permit to Leave” indicating your student’s dismissal time. Your student should then report to the main office with their permit to sign out. After the appointment, the student must present a doctor’s note to return to school. In emergency family situations, please call the front office.

What is the cell phone policy at Smethport?

We encourage all students to keep personal electronic devices at home, including cell phones. While we understand a parent’s wish to stay connected to their children during the school day, we cannot be held responsible for the loss, theft, or damage of any personal electronic device. If a student must bring a cell phone or other electronic device to school, it must remain powered off and stored in the student’s locker during the school day. Students may use their phones or devices during their lunch period, but they may not record any photographs or videos with these personal devices. Please review our student handbook for more information.
